I Need Your Advice! (Updated)
Im not sure if you all remember seeing these a couple of months ago or not. (If not, I posted a picture of the original and one of my first attempts here.) Anyway, after some thought, I had decided to make a bunch to sell.
So far, I have made 13. I have a bunch more that arent far from being finished. I want to open an Etsy account and list them there. My dilemma is how much do I charge?
So here are the important details: Trivets/Pot Holders/Hot Pads 100% handsewn. 5.5 inches in diameter. Below are a couple of examples of the ones that I have made recently.
What do you think? How much do you think I should charge for them? How much would you be willing to pay?
Update: Here is the information that I didnt share. The cost of materials for these is minimal. The investment is really my time. Although they are small, each one takes me about 2 hours to complete. I have been debating for a while how much I wanted to sell them for. I would like to sell them for a bit higher of my price because of the time investment, but I also want to actually sell them. So I was thinking about a compromise (with myself?). I would sell them individually for $7 each. If you buy 3 or more, $5 each. (Im not sure I can do that on Etsy, I havent really checked out all of the details yet.)
My only other dilemma is what do I call my Etsy store?
A few of you mentioned that you really liked some. If you want some, I can work something out with you. We can do it not via Etsy so that I wouldnt be charged any fees and then we can share the savings.

Thanks for all of your input!

I'd charge around $4.99 or so. They're really cute:).
I am not good at price points, but I MUST have the pink and green ones. Figure out a price and bring those things with you! Those are beautiful.
Again, not good at price points, but I would figure the cost to make including the time and add perhaps 15%.
Mmm, I don't know how much you should charge. I really like the green and pink ones! I'd buy them from you!
Maybe $4.99 each, more if someone wants a custom color scheme?
Those are really cute, Sarah! I have no clue about pricing things, but I originally thought that $7-8 dollars would be reasonable. After all, they are hand-crafted. That price is a lot higher than what others mentioned, though, so I don't know.
I agree with some of the others: $4.99 sounds about right, plus maybe a dollar or two for the shipping costs. I really like the 2nd and 3rd ones, btw.
I would agree on the $5-$7 area, depending on shipping. I really like the top ones - I'm big into the blue and brown thing! :)
I like them. If you sold them at 3 each, you'd stand to make a bit more money, and in this economy people might be more apt to buy in numbers. At 3 each, I'd buy 5. If you sold them at 5$ I'd buy two maybe 3.
I'd go $5-6. (And, after seeing the orange one, I'm a bit sad that we've decided to take the orange out of the kitchen. *sniff*)
Yes, you can do that on Etsy...just write it into you description. My store name is ArtInFact. That's the fun part...coming up with the store name. Well, I mean, making money is fun too. I need to list some things...bad.
Back to you...I think your asking price is reasonable. People are willing to pay more when something is handmade.
I think your price is reasonable, and I think it is really smart to offer a discount for buying multiple items. And I did a quick little search last night for trivets, and there isn't anything out there nearly as cute as what you've made, so if people want original pieces for their kitchen, I don't think they'd have a problem paying $7 for one.
That's a great idea, selling 3 for $5 each. You could call your Etsy store "Sarah's SewShoppe".
'Trial & Trivets'...or 'Green Trivets', since you're "recycling" the bottle caps... (I know, I know...it's not like they would make or break our landfill space, but it's still pretty neat!)
@MySecretLoveAffair - Thanks for all of your help and advice. I really appreciate it.
@Erin1022 - Thank you! I wish I could take credit for coming up with the idea, but it definitely wasnt mine!
@RoAngie467@momaroo - I like it!
@filtered_sunlight@momaroo - you know, I was searching through Etsy, just to see if there was anything else like this on there. The only other trivets from bottlecaps I saw were not quite the same which is a score for me!
But, my point, they mentioned that some of the bottle caps were used and some were new. Why would you use new bottle caps for something like this?
I was definitely trying to figure out a way to include the fact that they are 'green' but I wanted to stay away from the word 'trash' lol
Those are extremely cute. :) I think you got a good price, the $7 a piece. I would pay that much for them if I really liked them. They are cute. If you come out with some in a red theme, I might have to order some. Hehe.
I would deff say $7 and maybe cut a deal like 3 for $18. Are you only going to make pot holders? Some names that run through my mind are Vander Heart Holders- which is Dutch for From the Heart Holders....or Happy Holders, Personal Pot Spots, the Trivet Exhibit. Maybe something more Personal- I have a name on something like the Dutch version of etsy and it's Love Lilly Rose which sounds like Lovely Rose because that's my future last name and I thought it sounded cute on all the things I sell. Good Luck!
